Chronicle Of A Person Living With A Positive Status

Whenever my husband is not feeling well, I'm always scared.

A Few weeks ago he started complaining of body pain and weakness,I was at alert immediately, we went to the clinic and he ran some test and all came out okay, the Dr said it was stress, that he needs to rest, and truly he doesn't really rest at all cos of his work.

I told my husband that we should try and check his hiv status, the man was just laughing at me , the thing is I'm more worried than him about him having the virus. It's almost 3 years since he did the test last , he told me we should go to general hospital for the test that in case he cast ,lols.

Few years ago he was scared of testing positive but I don't know why he's not scared again, I had to let him know the importance of him not getting infected, that we should protect him at all cost but maybe because he thinks it's not a big deal now cos he thinks since I hardly fall sick, that it's not a big deal. I had to sit him down to tell him the side effects and all that.

We both went to the general hospital far from us, in another local government and we did the test together, mine came out positive lols, and his remained negative.

According to hospital guild line, they were trying to counsel me but I told them no need. I only did the test as a kind of moral support for him. And we were told there again that as long as I'm using my drugs, I can't infect him.

Note, being undetected doesn't mean your hiv test results will come out negative, the test looks for hiv antibodies and even though I have less than 20 copies of the virus in my system, I will still be testing positive until maybe God allows cure to come.

  1. Good enough that you both are conscious of your health status and are playing the role of support system.

    2. HIV is no more a death sentence, it’s like catching Malaria. My friend was diagnosed of cancer in February, today she is a stage 4 full blown cancer struggling survival, hanging on life. Whereas with HIV you determine how long you live except ofcos another kind of death calls.
HIV is far and way better than a lot of ailments

  3. He sounds like a wonderful spouse. Dis-ease in the body affects physical health but even after being cured the dis-ease in the mind remains, always a little tremor of fear remains, carried with us through the rest of the life. This experience is not partial to only those with a hiv+ status, it happens to everyone who has ever been diagnosed with an illness and was able to not end up in the grave. I don’t know if complete peace of mind in health is ever possible again.

  5. My former boss has refused to let me breath stigmatizing me cos of my status, she didn't believe I can find a husband with my HIV status and he will go ahead with the marriage even after I told him, I'm tired she keeps carrying my name upandan
