
The bill which was sponsored by Hon. Abass Adigun (Ibadan North-East/South-East), seeks to carve Ibadan State out of the current Oyo State by amending the 1999 Constitution.
The bill now moves to the House Committee on Constitutional Review, chaired by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu.

Note that For Ibadan State to become a reality, it must pass a rigorous process outlined in Section 8(1) of the Constitution:
-Two-thirds support from lawmakers representing the area in both chambers.
-Approval from the affected state’s House of Assembly and local councils.
-A referendum with two-thirds majority support from the proposed state's residents.
-Endorsement by a simple majority of all state Houses of Assembly.
-Final passage by two-thirds of both chambers of the National Assembly
