A forgery allegation raised by the Peoples Democratic Party National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu at the weekend against the party leadership has deepened the crisis ravaging the opposition party ahead of its November 15 convention in Ibadan. The National Secretary claimed that a letter from the party on the proposed National Convention to the Independent National Electoral Commission, which bore his signature, was fake.

 Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have launched a deadly ambush on security forces in Kashimiri village, Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, killing the Commanding Officer of the 202 Battalion, five soldiers, and three members of the Civilian Joint Task Force. Several other soldiers, including the Commanding Officer of the 222 Battalion, Konduga, sustained injuries, while one soldier was abducted by the assailants.

The Zamfara State Government has approved the reinstatement and payment of seven months’ salary arrears for 103 teachers earlier affected by the verification exercise conducted by the Ministry of Education, Science and lTechnology.  A 22-year-old woman, identified as Odama Mary Agado, has reportedly taken her own life by drinking a substance suspected to be Sniper after she allegedly caught her boyfriend with another woman. Mary, who hailed from Woleche-Ipuole in Yahe Ward, Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State, was until her death a resident of Enugu, where she operated a hairdressing salon.

There was pandemonium on Saturday after some yet-to-be-identified gunmen stormed the military barracks in the Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State and shot dead a butcher identified simply as Ridwan. It was learnt on Sunday that the attack occurred around 8 am in the Mammy Market section of the barracks.

 Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have seized consignments of illicit drugs hidden in frozen snails, electrical bulbs, and female clothes bound for the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. According to a statement on Sunday by the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the interceptions were made at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport and a courier company in Lagos.

 An Islamic cleric, identified as Folorunsho Olaoti, has been arrested for allegedly brutalising a 10-year-old boy living with him in the Akerebiata area of Ilorin East Local Government Area, Kwara State. It was gathered on Sunday that the incident occurred on Thursday, when the cleric allegedly beat the boy mercilessly after accusing him of reporting to his mother that someone had spoken ill of her.
