Nigeria's Aviation Minister Keyamo Proposes Bill Mandating All Govt Officials To Fly Nigerian Airlines

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has proposed a law compelling public officials to fly Nigerian airlines on international routes.

The minister made the proposal on Sunday during the ceremonial send-off of Air Peace’s inaugural direct flight from Abuja to London Heathrow Airport.
During the occasion, Keyamo stated that the Federal Government would soon introduce a bill tagged the Fly Nigerian Act.

“We are going to bring the bill on the Fly Nigerian Air to him (Benjamin Kalu). He will pass it.
“The Fly Nigerian Air is to mandate every government official travelling abroad to patronise our local airlines if they are flying that route first, except there is no local airline flying that route,” Keyamo said.
“If a government official, member of the House of Representatives, member of the Senate, Minister, DG, or government official is flying to any part of the world, the first question you ask them is: Is there a Nigerian airline flying that route? You must buy that airline ticket first, except that they are not flying that route. That is the Fly Nigerian Act that we want to do''

  5. Useless Nigerian politicians, they only know to store money for their unborn generation and spending money on women. They don't care if their constituency does not have any infrastructure. Common water that doesn't require too much technology, they can't provide for their constituency. Very evil and wicked lots

  6. The economics of it won't gel. The other flights may be cheaper considering that Air peace doesn't have landing privileges with any of the major carriers' airports and isn't linked to their alliances like one world or star alliance. Landing fees and absence of shared resources would mean a flight not full with people hanging from the wings is running at a loss.

Also, running in isolation means no benefits like miles, shopping points, lodging discounts etc. government should facilitate business, not adopt them.

Let dangote and importers do their business and let consumers chose what they like.
Let Air peace and others do their business on a level playing field and let the flyers decide.
