One of the security guards had found the courage to open up about their paltry salary.He revealed that himself and the other security guards are suffering because they are not permanent staffs of the institution and so are not receiving the adequate benefits they are meant to get.
In an emotional outburst, the guard was quoted saying;
"On the 1st of June, 2021, we raised placards, asking you to help us. We’ve been here before Otunba Alao Akala and before the work of this place is completed. We are not staff but indigenes of Oyo State, please help us, we are suffering. I have a family and three children; my age is fast running out. Please help us, your excellency,” .
The governor listened to him and asked him how much they earn to which the guard replied;"N18,800".
A top official of the hospital informed the governor that they are not staff of the hospital but outsourced to a company and that N27,000 is being paid per security officer.
Reacting to the revelation, Governor Makinde provided a solution. He said;
“I can solve the problem right away by saying that all 67 should be converted directly to ad-hoc workers and you will get N80,000 every month from the first of October.”
The announcement was met with shouts of joy and excitement from the officers and crowd present

Nice of him. I hope other security persons elsewhere can be considered. It's is well.
ReplyDeleteThis fckn exploitation of the poor has got to stop! So security guards at a university was making a measly 18,000 naira monthly which is the equivalent of $12 US.
ReplyDeleteI don’t even spend $12 on lunch. Why are some African business people like this? You expect someone earning that paltry income to show up and do exceptional work?
How can you pay a security guard 17k and you still expect him to secure you and your properties properly???
ReplyDeleteNawa!
