There is a boy I talked about here whose mum brought from lagos to Ibadan to stay with his grandpa due to his inability to read and write perfectly at age 16.....
(Note: still in Jss2 and he is so tall). Someone till today that I don't know told the mum to bring the boy to me that I will be able to handle him.
I was contacted but we didn't agree based on price but wifey and some people here asked me to help the boy out. I accepted the 30k payment from the mum monthly. I'm not specialized at speaking or teaching English language but every other subject, count me in.
I booked 2 days English session with a lady for him and she agreed for 20k out of the 30k the boy's mum would to pay me........ The remaining 10k is only for my own transport because I see him twice a week and the English teacher also sees him twice a week( 2hours per visit). I did this just to help the boy and not to make money because my transport alone monthly is 7500 due to the distance from my shop to their house but the English lady stays closer to their place.
To cut the long story short, we started with this boy since last year November or so and i gave him back to back, using real life examples in teaching him because abstract instructional aids is only meant for smart and intelligent students. Funny enough, I told the mum not to register him into any school due to his stature(Why? He might turn to a bully, at that age to be in jss2 coupled with the fact that, he is academically lost and the mum accepted).
I realized this boy began to fell in love with books and most especially maths, basic science and basic technology(note: I also keep praying to God to use me for his testimony which he did). I taught him, using the normal scheme and made sure all examples given are things he can see within him. When it was time to register for Junior Waec, I told the mum but she refused, she said she is scared and she doesn't want to waste her money due to the boy's academic level.

I smiled and asked her if she was serious and really telling me the reason she gave was genuine or because she is not financially capable now. She was silent for few seconds and later said and i quote "both". I told her the price and asked her to work it out, and i also promised to refund her if this boy fails 4 subject(condition).
My people of God, I registered him into the cheapest school because I don't want him to write the exam in one of those big school where I won't know if he was the one who wrote the exam or not and also, money issue was also considered, me wey wan refund if the boy fail.

I made sure i used my own money to register him before the mum later paid back a week to registration closing date. 4 Days ago, i was jejely thinking about my life and way forward because I received a letter which I'm not pleased about but man must continue to look for a way out.
Naso the boy called me and began to shout, pray and give thanks. I was surprised and i asked him what was going on, then he said he will be at my shop soon.
The boy came and showed me his result . I was so so happy for him and to my surprise, he said he wants to try senior waec or GCE next year provided if the mum will be able to help him out with the registration. I was so happy and gave God all the glory.
I asked him to send the result to his mum and also ask her to call me but mama never call me since then. I just had to advise her to register the boy into even if na public secondary school so as not to kill the vibes I've created in his life. But mama never call me because she is still owing for 3months(90k) and the lady I'm to pay 60k understood perfectly. Though, I've given her 20k from my pocket just to make things easy for myself.
See ehn, no child is a dullard. Every child has their weaknesses and strengths but you as a mother or teacher, are you not a threat to them? Because a child can't solve simple equation doesn't mean he is useless in all subjects.

Infact, i tell some friends working as a teacher here in ibadan that, formative and summative evaluation isn't a perfect tool to decide if a child is academically sound or not because, some can be good at theoretical aspect while those you term OLODOS can do better in practical.
I'm one of the lover of pragmatism (learning by doing). As a teacher, learn to use different teaching methods, classroom management techniques and child-centered principles in making your teaching meaningful and interesting. It is not all about speaking english.
How I wish I can go back to field as a teacher but the payment and time taken in school isn't for men with vision. Private schools here will use you and if care isn't taken, you might not have time to build your life. 4Ok, 50k,60k salary and you will resume 7am and close 5:30pm and when you are on duty, you close 7pm due to some parents who are yet to come pick their children.

Teachers are builders. I'm a born teacher and a trained one with several certificates. I love teaching but taking a school work in Ibadan is a no no but i can help as either a consultant or come teach the staff on how to make their classroom worthwhile.(If they can pay for it).
