Your obedience is tied to the good of the land, while refusal and rebellion leads to destruction by the sword and all kinds of troubles,sickness, problems, pestilence etc.
Make your choice, but remember God is not mocked. What we sow upon the earth determines our circumstance.

Dear brother started posting shades on his WhatsApp status, things like "if you don't have anyone to lean on when you need support, you are alone in this world " "be selfish, think only about your well-being, no one cares about you" , not exactly the way he put it but similar..
I stopped viewing his status and locked up.
He noticed and started chatting me up to greet me so that his contact will be at the top of our chats and I will be tempted to view his status, I still locked up. I would respond to his greeting and not view his status.
I'm not viewing anything. I hate nonsense.
