The only goal came from Iliman Ndiaye in the 27th minute. He capitalized on a costly error by Mali's goalkeeper Djigui Diarra, tapping the ball into an empty net after a spilled cross to give the Lions of Senegal the lead. No other goals were scored in the match, despite Mali playing with 10 men for much of the second half following a red card they got. Senegal's defense held firm to preserve the clean sheet and progress to the semi finals.
