Pastor Adeboye Says Boxer Anthony Joshua Survived Car Crash Because Of God's Mercy

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has credited the survival of British-Nigerian boxing champion Anthony Joshua in a potentially fatal car crash to what he described as God’s mercy.

Adeboye spoke during the church’s monthly thanksgiving service, while illustrating the role of divine mercy in preservation, citing Joshua’s accident.

Delivering a sermon titled “The Value of the Mercy of God,” the cleric cited the recent car accident involving world-renowned boxer, Anthony Joshua, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as an illustration of what he described as God’s “uncommon mercy.”

Joshua escaped death in the road accident that occurred on the busy Lagos–Ibadan Expressway last Monday.
The crash claimed the lives of two of his friends — Ayodele Kelvin, a 36-year-old Nigerian-British citizen, and Gami Sina, also 36, a British citizen — while others sustained injuries.

While explaining the value of God’s mercy in preservation, Adeboye said it is by the mercies of the Lord that we are not consumed. We are alive because of the mercies of the Lord, not because of cleverness.”

“I read in the newspapers yesterday that our boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, exchanged seats with someone before the accident.
“The people he exchanged seats with died. I don’t know why, but the mercy of God said someone would still be alive today,” he said.

  6. Not to undermine the mercies of God but that's just destiny. Not that mercy is available for Anthony and none for his friends. That's not how it works. When it's time, it's time. And when it isn't then it isn't. Nothing can stop it. Not prayers, not mercy, nothing at all. If it's not yet your time to die, even a plane crash won't kill you. And when it's time ordinary headache or even nothing at all will take you away.
Even all the talks about over speeding and what not, what happened would still have if it has been destined to. It was simply not yet time for Anthony to go.

    1. Naa you’re wrong, God will have mercy on who He will have mercy on. May God continue to give us the grace to always receive His mercy. I am an example of who God showed mercy upon in the midst of several people. Don’t talk like this again o

    2. God’s mercy spoke for him and prayer can change a whole lot, check the life of that king in the bible that God told to organize himself that his was up but he prayed and God added 15 years to his years

    5. Yemi, that is one way of looking at King Hezekiah’s story. The other side is that if he had accepted the time that God had ordained for him to die and not asked for more time then his people likely would not have been captured and he would have not had to witness the decimation of his kingdom. Let us learn to accept God’s timing and plans on everything. He asked for more life and got it, but in the end it only added misery to his soul. The lesson isn’t God mercies, but in trusting that God absolutely knows at all times what is right for us and to always accept God’s plans for us without question.
