Former NEXIM Bank Boss Robert Orya Jailed 490 Years For ₦2.4 Billion Fraud

On February 5, 2026, a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja convicted and sentenced Robert Orya, the former Managing Director of the Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM), to a total of 490 years in prison.

This came after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) proved charges of fraud involving about ₦2.4 billion during his time leading the bank from 2011 to 2016.

The court, presided over by Justice F.E. Messiri, found Orya guilty on all 49 counts. These included criminal breach of trust, misappropriation, abuse of office, and other corruption related offenses. The judge handed down 10 years imprisonment for each count, adding up to the 490 years.
