Abati shared the details during a recent interview with media personality Morayo Afolabi-Brown.
While talking about marriage, respect, and culture, he explained that age does not automatically give him control in his home.
He said that as the older partner, there are moments when he feels his wife relates with him too freely.
However, whenever he tries to remind her of his seniority, she quickly pushes back and makes her position clear.
According to him, his wife insists on being treated as an equal partner and refuses to conform to certain traditional expectations.
Abati explained that his wife does not believe in practices such as kneeling to show submission and has made it known that she will not be pressured into silence
He added that she once bluntly told him that if he wanted a wife who strictly followed village traditions, he should return to his hometown to find one.
He said: “As an older person, sometimes I think my wife gets too familiar and I said no, I am older than you and she said no I you don’t want me to talk.
"She said she cannot kneel down, if I am looking for a wife I should go back to my village.”

ReplyDeleteHis concepts of marriage and expectations of his wife are concerning to say the least. His mind is not right. It doesn’t seem like he views his wife as a friend, counterpart, missing rib, but it reads like she is staff or an acquisition/purchase.
Delete“Too familiar” so she should be more like a stranger? Two became one, how can she ever be too familiar as your wife. But thanks for the insight into the mindset of some men.
ReplyDeleteSir, even royalty sitting on the throne do not expect their friends or family members to kneel to them, why would you expect this of a wife? Your wife is your family and friend. Appreciation, value, and respect can be shown in numerous ways outside of kneeling.
