*******************THE NATURAL FISH EATER AND THE CULTURESHOCK
Was ëätïng my fish hëäd when I remembered the first time I äté a complete fish the African way in front of my French in-läwś…
I nearly caused an international íncident.
Back home, ëäting fish isn’t about “tasting” it.
We experience it. We honor it.
We extract every blessing inside it.
By the time we’re done, that fish has fulfilled its destiny completely.
Some of us; like me,
wey no like to leave evidence for crímë scene chew and swalló the bónës.
The first time my husband saw me ëát fish
while we were still dating, I could tell from his face;
“Should I continue this relationship?”
He just sat there, watching me
like I was performing súrgëry.
This girl can wake up the morning and ëàt me up leaving no evidence!
But love is love;he adjusted quickly.
embraced culture… with a smile.
Fast forward to France.
First official family dinner with my in-läwś.
The table was perfectly set.
Napkins folded .
I was ready.
Fïsh was served.
Everybody ate calmly, gently separating the flèśh, leaving the bönës neatly on the side… like museum exhibits.
Me? African babe. Original version. No software update.
I focused.
I choop the fish completely. Slowly. Respectfully. Thoroughly.
I reached the center,
handled the isi Azu with confidence.
Nothing wastèd . Every nutrient appreciated.
I didn’t even raise my fäcë
because I already knew they were watching
And I wasn’t letting anyone discourage me.
When I finally looked up…
Silence.
My in-làwś were staring like they’d just witnessed a live cultural documentary.
My husband laughed to break the tension.
My mother-in-läw , sweet woman, said:
“This is the right way to ëät fish.”
I smiled and said,
“Yes. This is where the real goodness is.”
Then came the chïcken.
I finished mine, looked around, and saw everyone had pushed their bönës to one corner.
I cracked mine and they clutched their chest
E be them like film that day
I maintain my steeze; while at it.
lol but now they are used to it
So; the same way I experienced culture shöćks in France is the same way foreigners see our culture;
it can feel surprising at first.
And that’s perfectly okay.
We learn to coexist, to love, and to respect each other… without losing ourselves
All of us just dey shöćk each other for this abroadlans las everybody go dey alright

THE PAIN NO ONE TALKS ABOUT
Some pain isn’t loud.
It doesn’t shout.
It doesn’t leave bruises.
It hides in your chest,
tightening with every smile you force,
every “I’m fine” you lie,
every step you take pretending it’s nothing.
It’s the ache of being invisible
to the people who should have seen you first.
The loneliness of giving everything,
and receiving silence in return.
The grief of hoping someone will stay,
only to watch them leave without a word.
It’s the kind of pain that follows you into the night,
into the bathroom mirror,
into the conversations you’ll never have.
It sits on your shoulders like a stone,
pressing, heavy, relentless.
Some of us have learned to hide it behind laughter,
behind small achievements,
behind words that mask the bleeding inside.
But here’s the truth no one dares to say:
you can carry it quietly,
you can smile anyway,
you can survive.
Because survival doesn’t mean the pain disappears.
It only means you’ve become strong enough
to walk forward
with it still inside.
And maybe one day, someone will see it.
Or maybe not.
And you’ll keep going anyway.

She was like ' I don know when I go die, make I begin dey use them".
Some of you have sets of plates ,pots in your kitchen, even clothes and shoes in your closets that you haven't used for years.
Why do you keep them?? Abi you want to leave them as inheritance..

DeleteWho says her way is the best? So if I die today, my regret would be that I didn’t eat with special plates? Plates? There is nothing wrong with having special plates to serve guests with. I can assure you that when one’s dead, plates are the least of their problems.
DeleteAnon 17:15

- Dead people fart right after dying.
ReplyDeleteNot only fart. The dead can pass excreta and urine. This happens because the muscles or sphincters around the bladder and bowels relax at death. Pretty weird shit.
Not only reason person..

ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting read @fish eater post. I am team don't leave evidence in crime scene, especially with original titus fish.
ReplyDeleteSummer still far oh Stella, sorry about the rain.
A church recently raised ₦960,000 for a member who was very sick. His hospital bill was ₦210,000 an amount he and his family could not afford.
ReplyDelete
During a service, the pastor announced; “Our brother is hospitalized and needs ₦210,000. Let us support him.”
Members began donating generously and by the end of the service, the total reached ₦960,000.
Afterwards, the pastor counted the money, gave ₦210,000 to the sick man’s brother to pay the hospital, and deposited the remaining ₦750,000 into the church account.
The problem started when the family became upset.
They argued that all the money should have gone to their brother, not just the hospital bill, because people donated out of compassion to help him with recovery, medicines and daily needs.
The pastor, however, said he only requested ₦210,000 and once that target was met, any extra money belonged to the church.
The way this situation is now..
What is your take on this?
Who do you think is right in this situation? copied
Has the thief been arrested? I mean the so called pastor.
DeleteEven if he'll take something aside, why not give the ailing man 500k? He just used the man's situation to raise money for a new phone. Onye oshi.
The money should be given to them because, it was raised for them not in the name of the church. That pastor is greedy
DeletePastor should have added something to the #210k. After they pay the bills, they'll be more expenses to cover 💰
DeleteMoreso, I think the remaining money should be reserved...in case something of that sort comes up again.
Na wa for that pastor o.
DeleteHe's supposed to give the man all the money raised after all it was donated for hiim. Pulpit bandits everywhere.
Honestly, if we’re being technical about it, the pastor could argue he was right. He mentioned ₦210,000. That was the stated need. Once that amount was met, you could say the objective had been achieved.
DeleteBut church isn’t a courtroom. It’s a community. It runs on trust, conscience and moral responsibility — and in this case, that part wasn’t clearly addressed.
Depositing ₦750,000 into the church account without first explaining what would happen to any surplus doesn’t sit well. Even if the intention was an administrative order, it leaves room for doubt. If the plan from the beginning was that anything above ₦210,000 would go back to the church, that should have been said before people started giving. Clarity beforehand would have protected everyone. Silence after the fact only breeds suspicion.
So emotionally and relationally, I understand the family’s reaction. Their frustration makes sense. In a faith setting, perception carries just as much weight as policy. The moment people begin to question how compassion is being handled, confidence starts to thin out. And once trust is shaken, the damage goes beyond money.
When members gave, they weren’t doing maths in their heads. They were responding to a cry for help. And naturally, if almost five times the needed amount is raised for someone who couldn’t even afford basic treatment, most people would assume that extra support would help with recovery — medication, food, transport, follow-up care, and the days he can’t work. Compassion doesn’t usually stop at the exact hospital bill.
This could still be resolved with humility and openness. A simple, honest conversation can restore confidence. But if it’s ignored or handled defensively, it becomes the kind of story people remember for the wrong reasons.
Even with GoFundme if the amount raised is above the target then it all goes to the person. A church should be operating on stronger ethics than those in the world. The entire amount raised on the cause should have been turned over, let them give back to the church.
DeleteAs for me the pastor can take 10% as agent, since Na business man him be.
DeleteThe pastor suppose to deposit the remaining money to the man account, because the family will still need money for drugs and food items
DeleteThat pastor is not a good person. He should have given the family 500k and use the remaining for other members in need of charity.
DeleteThat pastor is a complete thief, the money was raised for the man, as in people contributed money solely because of the man, why did he have to divert the remaining one into church account?
DeleteHaba, the Pastor no try. All the monies should be given to the sick man.
DeleteIts all his and should be given back to him. Silly pastor
DeleteI don’t like fish or chicken bones, flesh does it for me, A wonderful afternoon to you all

ReplyDeleteThe kalo kalo wey these agbada men and women dey use nija people head play ...
It is disheartening to witness how politicians often act with impunity, taking the people for granted. The recent case involving the former governor of Kaduna State, suddenly picked up by the EFCC, raises serious questions. Where was this urgency all along? To some of us such actions are not about justice, but about political rivalry—targeting those not aligned with the government of the day.
This pattern erodes public trust and perpetuates a cycle of selective accountability. However, the day of reckoning draws near. Sooner or later, the truth will catch up, and those who think they can hide or flee the country will face the consequences of their actions. True justice may be delayed, but it cannot be denied forever.
We deserve better—leadership that serves with integrity, not vengeance or opportunism.
Good day people....✌️
What are you even saying? Didn't El rufai rule Kaduna state with the same impunity? I don't give a fuq about any of these demons. Na turn by turn. Who im turn reach, make e enjoy.
DeleteGoodafternoon
