Many parts of Lagos and its environs were thrown into darkness during the Eid-el-Fitri celebration and throughout the weekend because of lack of electricity supply. Ten distribution companies (DisCos), including Eko Distribution Company and Ikeja Electric (IE), which supply electricity to the nation’s commercial nerve centre, received zero allocation of electricity as of 19:22 hours on Sunday.


President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday in Lagos State said his administration will intensify efforts to tackle the challenges of insecurity across the country, assuring that the safety and well-being of citizens featured at the meetings held in the United Kingdom. He stated that the “next phase of our struggle is staring us in the face, and that is the challenge of insecurity in the country”.

 Gunmen on Sunday attacked a worship centre during service in Ifelodun local government area of Kwara State. The incident occurred at the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Omugo community, where worshippers had gathered for their regular Sunday service.

 A wave of violent incidents, including a suspected gang attack and inter-community clashes, has left at least three people dead and several others injured in Katsina metropolis between Friday and Saturday. The attacks occurred in Tudun Wada, Bakin Gawo, Unguwar Wala and Shararrar Pipe—areas residents said have witnessed persistent youth violence despite security interventions.

 The All Progressives Congress (APC) says it has fixed Tuesday, March 24, for the screening of aspirants for its national offices ahead of its March 27 National Convention. A notice issued by the Secretary of the party’s Aspirants’ Screening Committee, Alhaji Isa Yuguda, on Sunday in Abuja, stated that the exercise would hold at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel.

 The 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, visited Kano on Sunday to meet with former Kano State Governor and political heavyweight, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. The meeting at Kwankwaso’s residence also saw the presence of Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Senator Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State and prominent activist Naajatu Mohammed.

Eleven more persons have been arrested by the police over the sexual harassment and molestation of women during a festival in Oramudu quarters in Ozoro community, Isoko North local government, Delta state. A statement by the spokesman of the Delta state police command, SP Bright Edafe, said the latest arrest brought the number of those so far in police custody over the issue to 15.

 The Police Command in Akwa Ibom has detained four suspected drug dealers at Okopedi in Eket Local Government Area, the command confirmed on Sunday. DSP Timfon John, the command’s Public Relations Officer, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Uyo.
