A 29-year-old man, Quadri Mohammed, is currently on the run following the alleged killing of his 26-year-old girlfriend, Precious Mogaji, in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State. It was gathered from a statement issued on Monday by the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, that the police had commenced an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.


The Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals (DPRP) has raised its gantry rate for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) petrol to N1,175 per litre from N995/l. Alhaji Abubakar Maigandi, National President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), confirmed this to The Nation by phone on Monday. He added that other depots now sell the product at N1,200 per litre.

 The lawmaker representing Osun West in the Senate, Lere Oyewumi, elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 general elections, has defected to the Accord Party. Until his defection, announced in a statement obtained in Osogbo on Monday, Oyewumi was the last PDP senator in Osun State, following the earlier defections of Olubiyi Fadeyi and Francis Fadahunsi to the All Progressives Congress.

 The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Kabiru Turaki, has rejected the judgment of the Court of Appeal which nullified the party’s national convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State. Spokesperson of the Turaki faction, Mr Ini Ememobong, disclosed in a statement that the party’s lawyers had been directed to challenge the ruling at the Supreme Court.

 The Naira yesterday depreciated to N1,425 per dollar in the official market, the lowest in two months, following rising dollar demand triggered by ongoing war in the Middle East. Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, showed that the indicative exchange rate for the naira rose to N1,425 per dollar from N1,398 per dollar last weekend , reflecting N27 depreciation for the naira.

The suspects reportedly carried out three high-profile kidnappings, each yielding a ransom of N3 million, bringing their total takings to N9 million.

 Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has vowed that security agencies will reclaim communities in Kwara State from bandits. He declared that criminal elements cannot drive residents away from their ancestral homes. The police chief made the declaration on Monday during a visit to the state where he met with security officials and community leaders.

 A man identified as Opeyemi Lawal has died after he was allegedly assaulted by some park officials inside the Marina car park in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State. It was learnt on Monday that the incident happened on Sunday after Lawal was accused of theft. A Facebook user, Sheriff Ojon, who shared details of the incident on Monday, alleged that Lawal was tortured by two car park officials before he succumbed to his injuries.
