Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El‑Rufai has been released from ICPC custody after the death of his mother, Hajiya Umma El‑Rufai, in Cairo.
His son, Bashir El‑Rufai, confirmed his release on Friday, March 27, 2026.
El‑Rufai, who had been detained since February over allegations of financial misconduct, money laundering, and abuse of office—allegations he has consistently denied—was granted temporary release on compassionate grounds so he could join his family for funeral rites.
He was arraigned on March 24,2026 with his bail hearing adjourned to March 31.2026 The ICPC’s decision came just hours after news of his mother’s passing.... Her remains are expected to be flown back to Nigeria for burial.

ReplyDeleteTake it or leave, El Rufai weild a strong political relevance and grassroot base in the north. The government knows that very much. Denying him this opportunity won't serve a better interest to them.
