A 70‑year‑old man, Ahmed Babalola, has asked the Grade A Customary Court in Mapo, Ibadan, to dissolve his nearly 30‑year marriage, alleging that his wife, Aduke, has been violent, destructive, and repeatedly humiliated him.
Babalola told the court that living with Aduke had become “a nightmare,” claiming she constantly picked fights, tore his clothes, destroyed his 70th‑birthday cake, and publicly mocked him by questioning his performance in their marriage.
He further alleged that she had drawn a knife on him twice during arguments, forcing neighbours to intervene, and said he now sleeps “with one eye open” out of fear.
According to him, Aduke’s behaviour had caused disunity in his family and left him feeling unsafe. He asked the court to end the marriage and issue an order preventing her from threatening him or invading his privacy.
Aduke agreed to the divorce but asked the court to compel her husband to take responsibility for their children’s feeding, education, and healthcare.
Court president Mrs. S.M. Akintayo adjourned the matter to May 6 for defence.

Really sad...I wonder why the judge always adjourns serious issues like this!!!

Violence is a not negotiable. The judge should do the needful.
ReplyDeleteChai 😓 Some women are terrible.
ReplyDeleteSorry Papa.
Stella, some of them eventually reconcile after saying all sorts about each other so the judges and even lawyers have learnt to give some time before passing judgement as there might be possibility of reconciliation. Most likely, there is an arrangement for the man to be away from the house till judgement is passed.
ReplyDeleteThe judge should order for the wife to go get dementia screening. Some forms of dementia causes the person to become just as that woman is described in the post.
ReplyDeleteAnyone who notices a drastic change in the personality of their aged loved one should have them tested. If suddenly they do not talk much, always quiet, unsociable, never hungry it could be dementia too.
