Courts Halt FCCPC Rules And Orders MTN And Airtel To Restore ExtraTime

Two Federal High Courts in Lagos and Abuja have stopped the enforcement of the FCCPC’s DEON regulations, forcing MTN and Airtel to restore ExtraTime, Data Credit, and other airtime‑lending services.

Justice Lewis‑Allagoa protected VAS providers in Lagos, while the Abuja court ordered telcos not to block access to their platforms.
Meanwhile, the House of Reps wants the NCC to extend SIM‑reassignment timelines from 12 to 18 months to curb fraud, identity theft, and wrongful arrests tied to recycled numbers.

  1. Currently MTN has done better on its credit system. They now collect %25 of whatever money you recharge in offsetting your debt and the remaining balance credited to your xtra time balance to use for calls.

For example, you're owing ₦1,000, you recharge ₦1,000 on your line, they'll deduct just 250 which is %25 and leaves with ₦750 to make calls with. This is a good one and how it should have been long before now. People wouldn't have been abandoning their lines. Whoever gave them this advice did great.
