Presiding judge Hammad Ajumonbi noted that although Toyin wanted to remain in the marriage, Bashirat insisted on leaving.
The court granted her request, ended the marriage and awarded custody of their three children to her, while ordering Toyin to provide for their feeding.
Bashirat told the court she was tired of the marriage due to financial hardship and her husband’s irresponsibility.
“I want the court to grant me divorce so that I can have rest of mind,” she said.
Toyin, however, maintained that he still loved his wife but admitted he was financially handicapped.
“I have been trying hard to get money to feed my family, but couldn’t,” he said.
