NBC Warns Broadcasters To Stick To The Code Or Face Sanctions

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has issued a formal warning to all television and radio stations in Nigeria, reminding them to strictly follow the Nigeria Broadcasting Code. The notice, released on April 17, 2026, emphasized fairness, neutrality, and accuracy in all broadcast content.

According to the NBC, several presenters and anchors have recently violated the code during news, current affairs, and political programmes. The commission highlighted issues such as presenters inserting personal opinions into reports, interrupting or intimidating guests, failing to give equal opportunity to opposing views, and airing content that includes hate speech, incitement, or one‑sided narratives.
The NBC stated that any presenter who engages in these actions will now be classified under a Class B breach, which carries sanctions and possible fines for the station involved. The commission stressed that maintaining balance and fairness is especially important as Nigeria moves toward the 2027 general elections.
