
The case began in 2023 when Bello sued the senator over statements she made in a 2022 television interview and at a public rally. The court held that the remarks were defamatory and awarded general damages of ₦1 billion.
It also issued a perpetual injunction restraining her from repeating the claims.
In a video response, Senator Akpoti‑Uduaghan rejected the ruling and stated that she would challenge the decision at the Court of Appeal.
