
He was listed among 17 aspirants screened for the primaries, ending earlier speculation that his ongoing EFCC case might block his bid. Bello is currently facing 19 counts of money laundering and criminal breach of trust involving billions of naira at the Federal High Court in Abuja, charges to which he has pleaded not guilty.
Bello, who governed Kogi State from 2016 to 2024, recently picked up the APC nomination forms. If he wins the primary, he will face the current senator, Natasha Akpoti‑Uduaghan of the PDP, in the general election.
