EFCC Raid Sparks Chaos At Uyo Teaching Hospital As Doctors Declare Indefinite Strike

Armed EFCC operatives stormed the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital on May 12, 2026 allegedly dragging cardiothoracic surgeon Prof. Eyo Ekpe out of his office, assaulting staff, damaging property, and causing panic as workers and patients fled amid reports of tear gas and sporadic gunfire.


The EFCC said they were only verifying a medical report for a fraud suspect and claimed hospital staff attacked and locked them in. They later returned to apologize, but unions insist the assault, injuries, and damages must be fully investigated.
In response, the NMA and JOHESU shut down all health services in Akwa Ibom, declaring an indefinite statewide strike until accountability is served.
