EFCC Tenders Newspaper Evidence Against EX CBN Head Emefiele Over Naira Redesign Scandal

The EFCC on Monday submitted several newspaper publications as evidence in the trial of former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele over alleged unlawful Naira redesign actions.

A subpoenaed National Library official, Jegede Oluwasegun, certified the Punch, ThisDay, Vanguard, Daily Sun and The Nation editions tendered in court.
Emefiele faces a four‑count charge accusing him of approving the printing of 375.5 million colour‑swapped N1,000 notes—worth over N11 billion—without CBN Board recommendation or presidential approval,

He allegedly violating Section 19 of the CBN Act and causing injury to the public.
He pleaded not guilty.
Under cross‑examination, the witness admitted he only certifies newspapers and cannot vouch for the accuracy of their content.
Justice Maryanne Anenih adjourned the matter to May 12., 2026.
