The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) had declared May 30 every year as Biafra Day to mourn those killed during the Nigeria‑Biafra civil war nearly six decades ago.
An eyewitness said the five armed men entered the community around 10 a.m., urging shop owners to close in honour of the fallen. “At first, they were not violent,” the source said. “They told people to close and reopen by 4 p.m., but panic set in and everyone began running.”
Moments later, heavy gunfire erupted as the men reportedly clashed with operatives of the Agunechemba Security Outfit, leading to a fierce shootout that lasted through the day.
“The gunshots stopped briefly when we heard the security team overpowered them,” the source added, “but later in the evening, the gunmen regrouped and returned. Everyone is afraid; the community is deserted.”
As of press time, it was unclear whether there were casualties. Efforts to reach Comrade Nweke Nweke, spokesperson for the Agunechemba Security Outfit, were unsuccessful, and the Anambra State Police Command had yet to issue a statement.

ReplyDeleteThey should use that power to retrieve the children with kidnappers not to threaten those looking for their daily bread.
ReplyDeleteStaying safe at home is better than being cut up in violence. Only the living can run a shop. Be wise and stay safe for your family. It is not cowardice, it is self-preservation.
