Motherhood And Fatherhood Chronicles - Emotional Presence Vs Just Provision....

Many parents believe providing food, school fees and shelter is enough but children grow up remembering who listened to them, who hugged them, who showed up at school events and who made them feel safe. In many homes, mothers carry emotional labour while fathers carry financial responsibility. But is that balance fair, and does it truly meet a child’s needs?.

Which one are you carrying as a parent right now? Which one do you think is more important as someone who is yet to become a parent?

  1. My home, I carry the emotional labour and my husband carries the financial responsibility but not hundred percent as I also contribute 30% but you see that showing up for kids, giving them sound advice and making them feel loved and safe is very important, also checking their books and making sure they do their homework is very helpful. Me, when I’m over worked i complain oh, I tell my husband parenting is for the two of us because I do everything I listed up and more, his own is just to provide but sometimes sha, he gives emotional support but…

  2. Parenting should be intentional efforts; both partners have a role to play, and they should be willing to switch roles if necessary. Children, when the gorw up are easily attached to that parent that cared for them most.

  3. I am a woman and i have carried both: financial and emotional.....Oga only seems to remember them when he wants to show them off or send them on errands as per "me to have children to send on message" It is well. They are all grown now but we both know where their allegiances lie. After they will say women are turning their children against their husbands as if the children don't have eyes " I tell fathers all the time that providing is just the basic so what are they on about...i provide.... i provide... Like the write up said, children don't remember who paid school fees or fed them( unless there was something special about it) , its who was present for the special moments in their lives. That's where their memories come from.

  4. See that presence & adequate attention? Kids never forget. I do all of the above as their Dad is not around 😊
