Nigeria’s First Lady Donates ₦2 Billion To Boost Akwete Weaving in Abia State

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated two billion naira to help revive the traditional Akwete weaving industry. She made the announcement during her first visit to the Akwete Weavers Village in Abia State.

She also encouraged Nigerians to wear clothes made from Akwete fabric to support local traditions. At the event, the weavers gave her the traditional title of “Ugo Nwanyi” of Abia State in appreciation of her support.

The donation aims to strengthen the industry, create opportunities for the women, and help preserve this important cultural craft.

Akwete weaving is a well-known handwoven fabric from the area. Women in the community have passed this skill from one generation to the next for many years. The First Lady praised the women for their hard work and dedication in keeping this part of Igbo culture alive

  3. Donated? I just hope the money actually gets to them in the end, and it’s not just for clout or political antics.

But then again, why is it only when election season is around the corner that we start seeing gestures like this?

    1. Hasn't she be going around and donating to school around Nigeria and others. She was abused by nursing students or you suddenly have selective amnesia? Don't start this election card

    2. If Peter Obi donates his usual N5million naira TeeJay and obidients will praise him to high heavens without asking any question or reading meanings to it, but when others do their own you suddenly become circumspect asking foolish questions.
When they kidnapped those Orire school kids, obidients did not ask questions but immediately started criticising the government and even staged protests; but when God shamed them and the kids were released, they immediately now realized that it was staged.
      Funny set of people

    3. Anon 11:35,

The difference is that H.E. Peter Obi has been a giver long before he was in power. So any gift he gives today won’t have a political undertone to it.

He has donated millions to missionaries and to the education sector. Which of your politicians comes close to him in capacity, integrity, and humanitarianism?

      Let’s start from there.

Mention just one name and I’ll take you seriously and engage you further.

    1. Let's assume without conceding that it was stolen, so you prefer those who steal it and keep it in their bank accounts.
