Tinubu commended security personnel for the successful rescue in the recent Oriire abduction case, noting that the operation succeeded through the support and prayers of traditional rulers and Nigerians. He revealed that the abductors demanded the release of detained members of their criminal gang, but the government refused to negotiate.
The President also addressed concerns about the planned State Police, assuring that the system will include strict guardrails to prevent abuse. He added that traditional rulers will have defined roles and that forest guards will be upgraded to support security operations in various forests.
Tinubu urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, stressing the importance of community intelligence.
On the economy, he said federal allocations to states have improved significantly, noting that governors no longer borrow to pay salaries. He encouraged traditional rulers to advise governors to focus on essential infrastructure such as road networks to improve accessibility for citizens and security agencies.
