Blessing Agbebaku has stepped down as Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly. He resigned on Monday, 17 August 2026, after some lawmakers began moves to impeach him. His media aide, Ivy Adodo-Ebojele, confirmed the resignation and said more details would come later.
Blessing Agbebaku had held the position since June 2023. He was elected by the members of the eighth Assembly. In May 2025 he left the PDP and joined the APC. He said at the time that the move was meant to help bring development projects to his Owan West constituency under Governor Monday Okpebholo.
After his resignation, lawmakers quickly elected a new Speaker. Yekini Idaiyi, who represents Akoko Edo II, was sworn in. Reports also say Agbebaku and the former Majority Leader were suspended. Sunny Ojiezele from Esan South-East was named the new Majority Leader.

I need to get to the root of this story. This man was doing extremely well for our people.

First time seeing a well facially to do Edo State Politician.
ReplyDeleteDOZZYBEST.
Resigned or impreached??? That's what happens when you neglect the staff of the House by not paying them their entitlements and conless salaries. The new Speaker should learn from the mistakes of past Speakers that maltreated Edha staff
