He stressed that even when cancer can no longer be cured, treatment should not stop, as patients still need care to manage pain and other symptoms.
Nwokwu also highlighted the importance of early palliative care, saying it should begin soon after diagnosis to support patients physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually throughout their illness.
He added that cancer patients deserve to receive care that protects their comfort, dignity and quality of life until the end of life.
