Recently, about two months ago, I spoke with a welder and told him I needed a 4 by 5 container. He said four hundred thousand but three hundred and fifty thousand last. I asked him to show me the kind of materials he was planning to use, but when I saw it, I just smiled and changed our discussion because the sheet he was planning to use was the inferior one, and he thought I did not have any idea about those plate sheets.
I asked him to tell me what he would take for his workmanship, that I would provide all materials myself, and we agreed. We went to get the materials, and I chose the ones I wanted (black sheet). Since the place was close to his shop, I asked him to pick them up so he could start my work, then I left. I also gave him part payment for his workmanship.
A week after, I went to his shop to see for myself if he had started. I got there and realized he had welded the parts together, just left with the window and roof. Funny enough, the idiot changed everything I bought to another thing, thinking I would not be able to identify the kind of materials he used. Note: he was not at the shop when I went there to check.
So I quickly went home, carried the receipt of those materials and went to where I bought them. I asked the man why he changed the materials I bought. He said, and I quote, “Your welder changed it himself and collected the excess on them.” I asked if he would be able to say this in his presence, and he said yes. He even asked me to call him and put it on speaker whenever I was with the welder.
I got back to his shop and he was not around yet, so I patiently waited for him. When he came, I asked if he had started my work, and he showed me the same container I saw. Note: the boy I met at his shop had already made me understand that the container standing there was mine.
Immediately the welder showed me the same one, I just laughed and told him, “I am not sure this is mine because this is not the material I bought.” He thought I was daydreaming and said, “Mi o change materials yin now, eyi ta ra na ni mo lo.” We began to argue, and I told him to either provide my materials or buy another one and reconstruct another container for me.
Some people came to beg me to calm down and explained what happened. Then I put a call through to the man that sold the materials to me. That was how I gave him brutality. He could not say anything. In fact, the man said he had the receipt for the transfer he made to him that very day I bought those materials, meaning he went back there when I left.
I rejected the container, and he was forced to buy another set of materials to do mine, which made my container delayed. I just picked up the container at his shop last week Saturday.
You can imagine what people are doing just because of money. He chopped money from my head because I later priced the thing somewhere else and realized he made three thousand on each sheet. But I am after quality and not quantity. Now, with materials and his workmanship, the 4 by 5 container cost me three hundred thousand instead of three hundred and fifty thousand, and it also saved me from the welder using fake materials.
I was so pissed off, and to me, I cannot and will not recommend him to anyone. I do not want wahala for myself. You have made three thousand per sheet on me, why go behind to change them to inferior ones? This same thing is what is killing some site engineers. They want to build mansions on top of someone’s sweat, and at the end, they erect nonsense.

ReplyDeleteI'm happy Pinky that you didn't let it slide nor forgive him like your usual soft side. Some persons would've collected the substandard container out of "I don't want trouble"
This is in every sectors.. someone will pay hugely for products and you end up giving inferior products after charging outrageously..thank God you stood your ground..I hate nonsense abeg
