DeleteI pray the father regains his freedom unharmed. Honestly, I don’t think Nigeria has done well in managing this kidnapping crisis. I remember during Dr. Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, capital punishment was introduced for kidnapping. Most states adopted it too. But guess what? It remained on paper.
ReplyDeleteKidnappers are arrested today, and before you know it, they’re back on the streets. So why wouldn’t kidnapping keep rising? If convicted kidnappers were publicly sentenced and executed, I believe it would send a strong message to anyone considering that path.
Look at China for example. They have the death penalty for corruption by public officials. When was the last time you heard about corruption in China? Fear of consequences changes behavior. Until we build strong institutions in Nigeria and make our laws truly effective, criminality will not stop or reduce to the barest minimum.
