Nollywood veteran Omotola Jalade Ekeinde says her husband, Captain Matthew Ekeinde, deserves more credit than she does for keeping their marriage of three decades strong.
In her interview with Broadway TV, she said:
“I think he should be given more credits for keeping this marriage together than me, that is the truth.
As a man, he has more pressure than me, and as the famous one, he was the one at the receiving end. Everything falls back on him.
He has managed himself and me very well, and he is a very mature person.
There are a lot of things he does that many men do not do.”
Omotola added that she has told him they may someday start a couple boot camp to share their experiences, because people online keep asking how they have sustained their marriage. She said every relationship is different, but couples can learn how to manage each other’s peculiarities.
She admitted she is the “difficult one” in the marriage and believes no other man could have handled her the way her husband has.
“If I was not married to my husband, no man would have been able to handle me. I know myself. He is a very mature and confident person.”

Has he ever cheated on you or not?

Mind you, cheating is not a deal breaker for everyone!

ReplyDeleteNo matter what argument we may want to make, should we really be contesting Omosexy’s own summation of her marital experience? No nau.
ReplyDeleteI think she is right to give her husband his flowers. If, after 30 years, she genuinely believes his patience, maturity, and the way he has handled their marriage have helped keep them together, then he deserves the credit she is giving him. There is nothing wrong with recognising what one person has brought into a marriage.
But I wouldn’t turn that into a question of who deserves more credit. A marriage is still a mutual intentional sacrifice. Her husband may have been the more emotionally regulated one in certain situations, but she also had to stay, adjust, learn and make the marriage work with him. Nobody carries a 30-year marriage alone.
What I find most interesting is her willingness to admit that she can be difficult and still appreciate the man who has stayed with her. That kind of self-awareness is probably more meaningful than simply celebrating the number of years. After three decades, the real achievement isn’t that they never had problems that may have nearly broken this celebrity marriage. But despite those differences and their individual shortcomings, they somehow kept finding a way to remain together.
I'm happy for them
