Bob Manuel Udokwu Says Nollywood Isn’t Telling Enough Real African Stories

Journalist Stella Dimoko Korkus sat down with celebrated actor Bob Manuel Udokwu in Frankfurt, Germany, where he was honoured with the Golden Legacy Award at the Nollywood Film Festival Germany and NEGA Gala Night on August 1, 2026 for his outstanding contribution to Nollywood.

Stella asked Bob....

As a storyteller and actor, what story do you feel actors and cinemas aren’t telling enough right now?

BOB-'' I think the cinema industry is not telling enough stories about the real situations confronting Nigeria and Africa — conflict, hunger, starvation, women and children suffering because of crisis, internal or external aggression, natural disasters and disease outbreaks. These things are not covered well enough. Also, our deep cultural heritages are not being well produced. More ought to be done so the world will know who we are''.

Truly there's a lot to tell, enough to either make one end up depressed about our state, or even more awakened as to demand more from our politicians. For the sake of the former abeg make dem dey dilute am with comedy and "oyibo oyibo lifestyle" lol. E get why. Even some yeye nationalities fit see am dey laff us (like SA)
