The police in Cross River State have arrested a 41-year-old man, Bassey Ekpo, for allegedly setting a house ablaze at 8 Miles in Calabar, the state capital. The Cross River State Police Command, in a statement by its spokesperson, Sunday Eitokpah, on Saturday, said the incident was reported on Friday at the Ikot Omin Police Division by the occupant of the house, Ekemini Stephen.

Petrol pump prices rose to N1,395 per litre on Saturday as filling stations adjusted to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery’s latest pricing regime, which raised its gantry price to N1,350 per litre. Checks on Saturday showed that the Dangote-backed MRS filling station in Alapere, Lagos, increased its price from N1,310 to N1,395, while the price was N1,385 at the Mobil filling station on the same axis.

Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have raided a suspected criminal hideout in Idu Uruan Village, Uruan Local Government Area of the state, arrested two suspected drug dealers and recovered a large quantity of substances suspected to be Indian hemp and Cannabis sativa. The operation was carried out at about 1:30am on September 9, 2026, following credible intelligence on the activities of criminal elements operating from the location.

The Ondo State Government has confirmed the deaths of 29 people from suspected poisoning linked to the consumption of alcoholic substances in Odigbo Local Government Area. The Commissioner for Health, Dr Banji Ajaka, who disclosed this on Friday night in Akure, said there were 60 suspected cases from the incident.

The Ebonyi State Police Command on Saturday said it had rescued an abducted Methodist cleric, Rev. Ede Sunday. The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Joshua Ukandu, disclosed this in a statement in Abakaliki. He added that the command also recovered a locally made Beretta pistol and a stolen mobile phone in separate operations in the state.

Nigerians living in South Africa have called for stronger measures against the country over the continued xenophobic attacks against Nigerians and other African nationals.
The President of Akwa Ibom Indigenes Forum in South Africa, Akaninyene Willie, made the call while reacting to the Federal Government’s decision to ban further official travel by its officials to South Africa.
Willie said Nigeria should mount greater diplomatic pressure on South Africa, including demanding reparations of not less than one billion rand for every Nigerian killed and for Nigerian-owned businesses destroyed during the attacks.

Secretary General of the Charismatic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, Archbishop Chivir Chianson, has said God told them that President Bola Tinubu will win the 2027 general elections.
Chianson made this disclosure on Saturday while responding to questions in an interview on Arise Television.
He said it is not the business of the Charismatic Bishops if the opposition political parties cannot organise themselves and put their acts together.

The Abia State Police Command says it has rescued a medical doctor from kidnappers and apprehended a Point of Sale, PoS operator for allegedly receiving ransom money from the family of the rescued doctor.
The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Afolabi, disclosed this on Friday in Umuahia while briefing journalists on the achievements of the Command in under one month after his assumption of office.
He announced that the medical doctor, Ikenna Ilo, who was abducted on August 19, 2026, has been rescued by operatives of the Abia State Police Command through actionable intelligence.
