Abia State Government has dismissed allegations that it imposed N50,000 tax on women selling Akara in the streets of the state.
The government also denied reports that it is subjecting school proprietors and other business owners in the state to excruciating taxations.



The numerical strength of the Adamawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has continued to decline, with notable members leaving the party.
The latest defection involves a former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Kabiru Mijinyawa.
Mijinyawa, who was Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly between 2015 and 2019 when APC’s Jibrilla Bindow was governor, represents Yola South Constituency in the House of Assembly, where he is a fourth-term lawmaker after first being elected in 2011.
In his letter of resignation from the APC, Mijinyawa blamed his decision on the conduct of the party’s House of Representatives primary, which he described as lacking fairness and transparency.

Some political associates and former allies of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai have returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and declared their support for Governor Uba Sani ahead of the 2027 elections.
Those reportedly joining the governor’s political camp include Bashir Saidu, who served as El-Rufai’s Chief of Staff, and Abdu Kwari, a former commissioner and senator in the state.
Others include Nasir Abdullahi Maikano, former Kaduna State chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and a three-term member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, who represented Ungwan Sanusi Constituency.
Moukhtar Isa Hazo, a former Deputy Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, is also said to be part of the group, alongside other grassroots politicians from across the state.

Suspected Boko Haram terrorists invaded Bitirhuya community in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State,killed four residents and set many houses ablaze. The fresh attack came barely a week after the terrorists killed 12 people in Nzangola village, Gombi Local Government Area of the state.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to review the use of “partisan lecturers” as returning and collation officers in the 2027 elections. The ADC made the call in reaction to a report that more than 600 senior lecturers from public universities in the North endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election.

No fewer than nine passengers were killed when gunmen opened fire on a commercial bus at Dungus Junction in the Kuru community, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State. Residents told journalists that the incident occurred when the bus driver stopped to drop off some passengers at the junction.

The Osun State Police Command on Monday said it had recovered another corpse from the premises of the Mayfair Motor Park in Ile-Ife, bringing to two the number of people killed in the shooting incident at the park. This came as the remains of Olalekan Oyeyemi, a chieftain of the Accord Party, were buried at his newly completed residence in the Agunbelewo area of Osogbo in accordance with traditional rites.

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old woman, Ogechi Ofoma, for allegedly inflicting bodily injuries on her seven-year-old daughter, Oluebube, in Ibollo community, Awada-Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state. Oluebube was allegedly injured with a hot knife after she was accused of taking meat from a pot.

Two separate fire incidents in the Ikorodu and Surulere areas of Lagos State have destroyed goods and property worth millions of naira, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has said. The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

The candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the June 20 Ekiti governorship election, Isaac Alade, on Monday withdrew his case challenging the victory of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, against the party’s wishes. Counsel to the SDP candidate, Umar Abdulhamid, told the tribunal that he had filed a Motion on Notice dated September 12, 2026, notifying it of the petitioner’s intention to discontinue the petition. But counsel to the SDP, Adewole Adebayo, said he was not aware.

The former Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly and serving member representing Yola South State Constituency, Alhaji Kabiru Mijinyawa, and thousands of his supporters defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Action People’s Movement on Monday. In his letter addressed to the state chairman of the APC and dated September 13, 2026, the former speaker said a lack of rule of law and transparency in dealing with members of the party had pushed him out of the APC.

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has suspended the industrial action it earlier directed its affiliates to embark on, including shutting Federal Unity Colleges over the proposed concession of King’s College, Lagos. The TUC General Secretary, Mr Nuhu Toro, announced the suspension at the end of a meeting with the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, and other stakeholders on Monday in Abuja.

The Oyo State Government has confirmed the arrest of five suspected terrorists involved in the attack on a military camp on the outskirts of Igbeti in Olorunsogo Local Government Council on Sunday. The State Deputy Governor, Mr Bayo Lawal, made this known in Igbeti on Monday shortly after he was conducted around the scene of the attack by the Commanding Officer, 81 Battalion, Lt. Col. Innocent Asogwa.
