Ovation Mag CEO Dele Momodu Reveals Why He Was Almost Detained At Heathrow Airport
Veteran journalist and Ovation magazine publisher Dele Momodu said he was nearly detained at Heathrow Airport in London after security found 18 phones in his bag while he was heading to South Africa with a senator.
Officers called in special forces, laid out the phones and asked what he did for a living. Momodu said he was a journalist and had never seen any rule against carrying 18 phones. When asked for proof, he showed contacts of people he had met ;including Queen Elizabeth II and former US President Bill Clinton which helped calm the situation. Customs later questioned him again, suspecting commercial intent, but he explained the phones were old. He joked that showing the Queen’s contact helped because she is the head of Customs in the UK.
He said he and the senator almost missed their flight and that he now travels with fewer phones ; around six, some with dual SIMs.
