U.S. Embassy Suspends Routine Visa Services In Abuja And Shifts Processing To Lagos

The U.S. Embassy in Abuja from August 1, 2026 stopped processing regular visa applications and Applicants now need to go to the U.S. Consulate in Lagos for these services.
The change is part of a U.S. plan to move routine visa services in Africa to regional centres to improve security, screening and efficiency.

Lagos is now Nigeria’s regional visa centre, along with centres in Accra, Abidjan, Addis Ababa, Dakar, Johannesburg, Nairobi and Yaoundé
The U.S. government stressed that the Abuja embassy is still open and the change only affects routine visa processing, including tourist, business, family and employment-related visas.
