US Imposes New Visa Restrictions On Birth Tourism Facilitators

The United States has announced strict new visa restrictions targeting people and networks involved in birth tourism.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said foreign commercial birth tourism operators have been exploiting the US immigration system to sell citizenship for profit.


The new policy targets owners and managers of birth tourism networks, visa fixers who coach applicants to commit fraud, and foreign medical providers who help facilitate such travel or enable fraudulent Medicaid use.
The State Department also launched a public reporting portal for suspected visa fraud, including fake job offers and sham marriages.
The US clarified that travelling while pregnant is not banned, but travelling with the primary purpose of giving birth to secure US citizenship for a child is not allowed on a tourist visa.
