NOTORIOUS FOR JESUS
Two women on my street fought like lions last week. Guess what caused the fight? An ordinary clothes pegs!
However, what started as a simple argument quickly escalated because, as usual, mean words were exchanged.
The two women had similar pegs for hanging clothes. Somehow, they got into a back-and-forth argument over whose peg belonged to whom. “It’s mine.” “No, it’s mine.” And before long, the tension had risen.
Then the insults started flying.
One woman told the other that her bad character was the reason her husband left her. The other woman fired back that she was a witch, which was why she came into the compound with three children but eventually has only one.
Before we could say Jack Robinson, the second woman was so hurt by the comment that she ran at the first woman and started beating her.
The other woman fought back by pulling her hair, and in the process, she yanked out a whole chunk of it.
It took the intervention of several people on the street to separate them.
When I heard about the whole incident, I was genuinely upset. Imagine allowing something as ordinary as a clothes peg to cause this much trouble!
But then I thought about it, this is one of the downsides of living in an open compound. When people live so close to one another, the smallest disagreement can quickly turn into an outrageous fight, especially when pride, anger and harsh words enter the picture.
Sometimes, the genesis of the problem may have been something minute, but the hurtful words that was exchanged, and other things sitting under the surface turned it into an escalation .
When i was born my parents lived in an open compound and something happened between my mum and one of the neighbours and that led to me getting a native name that challenges me and always keep me on my feet.
The competition in such compounds is also a problem....
