Belgian Students Hold Demonstrations Over Rising Tuition Fees
Student protests have erupted across Belgium as Undergraduates pushed back against increases in tuition costs. Demonstrations in Liège and Brussels drew large crowds, with students complaining about higher fees, overcrowded classes, and difficulty accessing study materials.
Local reports say the unrest mirrors recent student actions in France, with Belgian students insisting they face “the same struggles.” Tuition has reportedly jumped from €835 to €1,194, sparking frustration and fuelling the nationwide demonstrations. Police have made over 100 arrests, linked to property damage and arson but the protests has continued to gain momentum as students demand a reversal of the fee hike and better learning conditions.
