Gov Otti Grants Full Scholarship To 15‑Year‑Old Debate Champion Esther Christian

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has awarded a full education scholarship up to university level to 15‑year‑old Esther Christian, captain of the Abia debate team that won the 2026 International Schools Debate Championship in Doha, Qatar.

Esther led the team to defeat six countries, returning with four trophies and twelve medals. Otti announced the scholarship while hosting the champions in Umuahia, explaining that her story of losing her father at age four moved him to make an exception through the Alex Otti Foundation.
The governor also gave cash rewards to the students and officials and approved the team’s request to represent Nigeria again at the 2027 championship.
