The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed the no-case submission filed by former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai.
El-Rufai is standing trial over alleged unlawful interception of telephone communications of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, in a ruling on Monday, held that the Department of State Services, DSS, has provided enough evidence to require the ex-governor to enter his defence.
The judge, therefore, ordered El-Rufai, the sole defendant in the charge, to open his defence.

The index patient, the 42-year-old wife of a Swiss diplomat who was declared last week as Nigeria's first Ebola case in over a decade, was flown out early this morning through an air ambulance at the private jet wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate has now confirmed the evacuation. In a post online, Pate said: "I confirm that, with my approval earlier this morning, the index case for Nigeria's first imported Ebola virus disease departed Abuja for Switzerland.
The patient was evacuated along with her spouse, who has remained asymptomatic." Pate also said the patient was clinically much improved, stable, conscious, and communicating, with lab results approaching baseline, but warned that does not mean she is no longer infectious.
Hence, strict protocols were observed. He thanked the clinical staff who treated her and the public health team that coordinated the evacuation.
Meanwhile, the NCDC says 53 contacts linked to the case have been identified and isolated, while surveillance continues across the country.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has approved a weekly payment of ₦100,000 for each person identified as a contact of the country’s confirmed Ebola case.
Director-General Dr Jide Idris announced the decision on Sunday, 25 October 2026, during a briefing in Abuja on the response to the outbreak.
He explained that the agency is already covering accommodation and feeding for people under monitoring. Some of those contacts raised concerns about how to support their families and manage daily needs while staying away from normal work and activities. The weekly payment is meant to ease that pressure and help them stay comfortable during the monitoring period.
Idris described the support as an emergency step that was not part of the original plan. The agency will keep reviewing it as the response continues. He also stressed that handling such public health situations should not fall on the Federal Capital Territory alone and called on other states to prepare funding and logistics for similar needs.

The agency is also monitoring people who may have been exposed to the confirmed case for 21 days and has urged Nigerians contacted by health officials to cooperate with contact-tracing teams.

Founding National Secretary of Alliance for Democracy, AD, Professor Udenta O. Udenta, has proposed an 18-month Government of National Unity after the 2027 elections to avert post-election crisis.
Udenta made the proposal on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s ‘Sunrise Daily.'
According to him, elections alone cannot build trust or guarantee stability, asking what becomes of Nigeria the day after election results are announced.
"Elections cannot, by themselves, build trust or guarantee stability," he said.
He proposed a Sovereign Commission for Democratic Sustainability and National Stability that will bring together the sitting president, president-elect, all certified presidential candidates, national chairmen of parties, the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Trade Union Congress, TUC, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, and civil society.
He said his initiative is backed by supporters of President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi and Governor Seyi Makinde, noting that Nigeria's survival must matter more than the fortunes of any politician.
He said the commission should get commitments from candidates before the election, including that they will participate whether they win or lose.
Udenta said the idea is not another committee of former officeholders issuing communiqués that gather dust, but a practical platform for dialogue.
