Pinkys CORNER

I was at a building recently to help correct some errors and interpret what the architect sent. Two days later, they were ready to start filling up the foundation. The twenty‑ton vehicle came to drop the first load and destroyed the concrete across the drainage.

I told them not to drive into the land again. Instead, I advised them to pour the laterite outside and increase the money to be given to the labourers who would pack it inside. But the owner refused and asked them to pour some into the drainage so the tippers could drive in.

I said this because I had studied that area and realised that if they mistakenly blocked the drainage and rain fell, the damage would be serious and they would regret it. When I told them, they said, “Rain don go.” They did what they wanted, and around 2pm we left the place. The tippers continued their work.

Around 4pm, the rain started and fell for a full two hours.

Guess what happened? The flood, caused by the blocked drainage, destroyed part of a building behind the man’s land. Not only that , it killed and washed away over 250 broilers of three weeks old.
The farmer calculated his loss at N1,750,000. The owner of the damaged building only asked the man to give him 500 blocks and N200,000. Looking at the damage, the owner will spend three times what he demanded, because we calculated everything but because he is a good man, he only asked for one‑third of the expenses.
The farmer insisted he would not go below N1 million. We later agreed on N800,000, exchanged pleasantries and left.
Funny enough, when we got to where we wanted to retire, the man called me. He said, “You warned us but we ignored you. I’m sorry for taking your words for granted.” He ordered pepper soup for me and two drinks, which I accepted, but in my mind I was saying, “No be by this one, na good payment I need.” I just took one bottle and the pepper soup, and that was all.
No matter who you think you are, always listen to advice and weigh it critically. Do not ignore it. Money is not everything.

  4. Many like to see before they believe, even when you are trying to safe them from danger they will still ignore.
Imagine the damage and expenses which would have been avoided if they had followed your words.
