The NDLEA and FRSC are set to introduce drug testing for commercial drivers to reduce drug-related road accidents. NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd) disclosed this on Thursday in Benin City during a stakeholders' engagement on drug abuse.
According to him, many drivers take drugs to stay awake and make more trips without knowing the effect on their brain and judgment.
He warned that drug use impairs drivers' judgment, endangering passengers and other road users.
He also urged transport unions to prohibit alcohol and drug use in motor parks.
No commencement date has been announced yet.
