The Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses has announced an adjustment to its longstanding position on blood transfusion.
In a statement released from its World Headquarters in Warwick, New York on Friday, September 18, 2026, the organization said members can now personally decide whether to accept or donate the four main components of blood based on personal conscience. According to the statement, "the decision to accept red cells, white cells, plasma or platelets from another person's blood is a matter of personal conscience." It added that each member must also decide whether to donate blood for use by another person.
