Nigerian Passport Is Not Easy To Get....Hello?

    TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

Who has ever been in the kind of situation described below?why is the largest African country having problems issuing passport to its citizens?
Please if you know any government official who should read this and take some action, please join me in forwarding this post to them..I have disturbed most of them so much that my nickname is now 'Dramaqueen'..lol

''Stella The issue is that when i got married and i needed to change to my husband's name on my international passport,I went to the immigration office, they told me I've to go to Abuja for scanning that they don't do re-issue in any state again except Abuja ‎(All the way from Ibadan) that they could only help me with the processing and they will call me to know when am due for scanning in Abuja.

I made payment and provided necessary document needed from me to start the processing. After some weeks,i proceeded to Abuja as instructed for scanning. I thought i was the  only one, come and see people from different state all over the country. I got there as early as at 9am (first flight in the morning to return back last flight the same day because i don't know anyone to pass the night with in Abuja) before they called me in for scanning it was around 4:30pm, I scanned and left back to my base waiting for the collection date they gave me, the date passed, no passport, only for them to tell me  that my finger print was not showing well on the system that I've to come back to Abuja for scanning again.

(look at the risk and money waisted from Ibadan to Lagos to board a flight to Abuja) am begging you madam Stella to please help make this a post because i know many people might be going through this too. My pain is that, why is it not possible for this thing to be done in any state you are in Nigeria instead of been referred to Abuja. And the way they treat people  is something else in that place.

A place where they call headquarters and it's only four people that's  scanning more than hundreds of people. I know some government officials visit this blog, they should please look into this issue''.

*Ah ah..what kind of stress is this?Abeg they should do something about this fast.

    2. Welcome to the club there poster. As I'm writing, my pass port has also not been given to me. All d way from warri, I went to abj to do a change of name on my passport. I arrived there on a tuesday aftanoon ( aftanun flight ). I went strait to d immi office and was told to provide d neccesary documents which I did, I had to pay xtra inorder to facilitate my passport. I ended up stayin there till friday without even been issued my passport and dat of my son( cos I also did a new passport for my baby). They asked me to come back in abt 2wks time for d passports. As I write, d time dey gave me has elapsed but yet my passport is still not ready, tho my son's own is ready. They said d person in charge of change of name is bereaved, so it wasn't done. Meanwhile wen I was in lag, it took me just 2days to get my passport d 1st time I did it. I even made a friend there( a lady dat also came to do change of name 4m lag). Those immi officers are all crooks, terrible set of humans.

    3. It's so frustrating cos I tried to change my passport from my maiden name in New York but they said it's only in Abuja that can be done. Maka why? I hope they do something about it soon. Even with all the soap that green passport robs on me, I'm still proudly Nigerian #shineswhiteteeth

    4. This is so true, took me a whole year for my passport to be issued. Firstly when I applied for change of name due to marriage, I flew from my base accra to abuja as they had already hinted me at nigerian Embassy in accra that change of name was only done in abj. Got the at 9am, waited forever to be scanned, one officer pitied me cuz I had a my baby with me and she was 3months then, and offered me a seat in hs office. de heat she had to endure sitting under thier so called canopy was terrible. I had my return flight booked for that evening back to accra cuz de had assured me I wud have everything done that day. But trust me as at 4pm dt day nothing was done. They officer on seeing how tired and restless I was due to de cry and wailing of my baby offered to process everything for me and have me come back for scanning. This was a friday n I had no way to put up in abj and with a lil baby. I flew back to accra, and was always communicating with the officer after a week I couldn't reach his phone again. Called severally no response, phone turned off. After 3wks of trying to reach him all to no avail, I sent a friend to go and find out what was the problem since I had his full name and rank. She returned and told me that mr officer suddenly took ill and was rushed to india for treatment he was due back in nigeria de nxtwk. Nxtwk came and I asked her to go back only to hear mr officer came back and died de nxt day after his return. Meanwhile my old passport that had my maiden name was wt him. P.s I used my ecowas passport bk to accra so I left my international passport with him. I was told I had to swear and affidavit, declare the old passport missing and reapply for a new passport/change of name again due to marriage. I did the processes all over again n was now waiting to be called for interview on how I lost my passport and then snap a new one.approval was out Only to be told twas salah and the oga in charge went to Mecca I had to wait for him to come back. Waited for another month before I embarked on a trip back to abj, ds time around I knew better and went alone wt no baby. First I waited for 3hrs to b interviewed even tho I was the only one waiting to see the oga in charge, all because he had friends visiting him from his home town so he was busy with them while I was waiting. I finally got dt over and done with and proceeded to go and snap and thumb print. Even tho I was taken to the vip section I waited another 2hours even tho we where less than 10 people waiting to be attend to. All because the people in charge where busy gisting among themselves and taking close to 20mins to attend to one person in something that cud av been done in less dan 5mins. Finally it got to my turn and the gentleman after taking my thumb prints said I should pray there's no irregularities with the thumb prints if not I wl be asked to come back and re do it. I told him point blank that if am asked to come back I won't even bother wl dash them the passport and get a Ghanaian passport instead. Told me in 10 working days passport will be ready, got it in 5wks. When I told my husband that my passport was out he told me to go to church and give thanksgiving cuz he has nvr seen anything like dt.

P.s sorry abt de typos, stl trying to get a hang on ds touch screen thingy.

I pray u get it in 3 months, got mine after 2 whole day of waiting to get captured and 5 months after thumb printing and capturing. Immigration service sucks.

  2. I don't understand this country at all. My friend is married to an Italian who's lived about 30years in Nigeria and they won't issue him a Nigerian passport. It's taking months before her 2 girls can get theirs! The Italian embassy gave them passports one week after applying. Why must Nigeria always be backwards? I would travel to SA to renew my passport if possible instead of travelling back to Nigeria. And Ibori is asking why Nigerians are angry, why won't they be angry?

If you have given them something you wont even wait that long to be issued the passport and no one will even tell you to come and redo the scan. Its the canker worm called corruption that is still eating deeply in every aspect of our national life.

The yeye website wouldn't let me , customer services isn't helpful and I have to start the process and pay online before marching down to Nigerian embassy in Charing Cross. The thought of the queue alone is making me weak. Please those in the UK, how do you do a change of name ooooo I don tire to dey bear my papa name.......

    1. Oh boy, that charring cross dey like Lagos! When I applied for a renewal of my passport, they gave me an appointment for an interview in 6 months time! Na so I kukuma apply for visa to Nigeria, which I got within two days. I eventually got d renewal, after 6 months...

      Delete
    2. It is quite easy over here. I did mine last year. Register and pay online, select change of name and book an appointment. You have to do all this online. Go to the embassy on the day of your appointment and they will sort it out. You pick up a week later.

      Delete
    3. The embassy at Charing Cross is the easiest and they have very well trained personnel as well. Mine was out in 7days with my new change of name and they answer their phones too. We'll coordinated......same form for change of name or renewal as you will still get a new passport all the same.

  18. Stella is worse than this!! The crowd there is like a market square! If you don't know anyone there you might spend the whole day sitting around!!! Am scared of going there for my daura's passport and we need it badly....Is not like we are not paying for these things...Even the people put in place to make things work are not doing the job! getting a driver's licence here in Abuja is same except you are tenacious like me(i don't take NO for an answer)

I was shocked when we went to get our new national identity card at Wuse 2 and we were welcomed nicely, well treated and guided, alot of courteous men and women taking our physical capture...printing the cards and all...Well trained staff! We were impressed!

  22. Nigerians!!! It's not international passport, it's a Nigerian passport. Even the British don't call their passport an international passport, they call it British passport. Back to the matter, welcome to Nigeria. My advise is that you let the old one expire and get a new one with your hubby's name. The money you spent on air fare will make a new one and you'll have even collected it that day. You Don enter ds one though. Wish you Godspeed

    3. Even if the old PP expires and u want to renew with a change of name(no matter the reason even change in ur date of birth) u'll have to go to ABJ. Expect u want to renew with all details as expired one.

  36. Why should ppl have to participate in fraud to get things done? The govt agencies should all be run efficiently and they should be able to preview what is needed to ensure it meets the requirements before sending ppl home. Africa can't rise because of this sad inefficiency that permeates every sector. Telling principled ppl that they should behave in a manner against their conscience to get things done is reprehensible. Nigeria makes life too unnecessarily complicated for its ppl. Look how large a nation and ppl must find themself to one place no matter the distance and obvious inconvenience to them. All these years of oil money and the country is just a little bit better than a banana republic.
