Why is it that these days, pastors only preach about success and prosperity? What you hear mostly in many churches these days are stuff like "You will not see poverty this 2015!" or "You must marry this year in Jesus name!" or "Your enemies will die in the name of Jesus!", etc. And the congregation will shout "AMEN!!!".

It is rare to hear pastors preach to the congregation about sin and hell fire. I
feel the reason for this is because some of these pastors don't want to lose members of their congregation by telling them the truth since people prefer to hear what they like. As a result, more and more people are going astray and indirectly grooming themselves for hell. Eg. You can be seated in church and in the seat in front of you, the first person just had an abortion, the second and third are fornicating, the fourth is a husband snatcher, the fifth is a ritualist, the sixth is an adulterer and the seventh is a 419ner.
These people have been committing all these sins for so long that it now seems normal so they don't even think of begging God for forgiveness anymore. Sometimes when you caution such people, they get angry and tell you that only God can judge them. Is it not better for someone to caution them so they can change and make heaven than for them to find out on judgement day and end up in hell? In churches, when it is time for praise and worship, they sing at the top of their voices and dance shoki, azonto, etc. Someone who had a sort of out of body experience or vision said that when sinners are gathered and worshiping God, there are usually demons in their midst.
That is because the spirit of God is not with them. Yet, to those people, their songs are entering directly into God's ears.
Many of the things we ladies wear these days in the name of fashion offend God. They wear skin tight, mini, cleavage revealing clothes. Pastors know that this is wrong yet only a handful will actually criticize people who wear it (you already know why). Please, don't wear something because oyibos are wearing it. Wear it because it is right and decent.
In the past, if a man or woman should fornicate, the news will go round and they will be despised by all. But now, if you are dating and not sleeping with your partner, you will be despised, criticized and the relationship may not last. This is because the devil has almost taken control of this world.
Some people have this impression that if they commit a sin and do something good for someone else, the good they have done will neutralize the effect of their sin. They are wrong. God can not be bribed.
If for example, you are an adulterer who commits adultery with confidence and mock those who don't do it despite the fact that it is wrong, it means that you have allowed the devil to cloud your judgement. On the last day, those people you made fun of will be uplifted while you could end up in the lake of fire. Who will have the last laugh then?
Something pushed me to write this today. Maybe God wants me to create 'religious awareness' on this blog. Going to church and being born to christian parents doesn't make you a true christian. It's your actions that matter. Many souls are languishing in hell because of ignorance. Don't allow the devil to get your soul. If the devil already has your soul, repent so he will leave it. I am not perfect myself but i am cautious of my actions because the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect...

DeleteWhat most of them preach this days is what the people wants to hear. They use psychology on there congregations. The effect of MOZART won't let the people reason properly because of the very loud instruments which causes them to lose there sense of balance and reasoning. It's like hypnosis. Haven said that, it will be unfair to make it a general statement because not all of them are this way.... There are still real men of God around.
DeleteOne more thing I find very annoying is the huge investment in church projects in billions while the members languish in abject poverty. I keep wondering what a single man is doing with more than 3 private jets.... For what????!!!! Church members would help build institutions of higher learning that would end up not being able to afford for their wards.... That's the height injustice!!!
I think it's high time churches started paying tax because they make so much money this days and they ain't helping the poor and needy.

Church turn classroom for how to make money! A popular church in phc o! I know someone who attended a popular church way back. He didn't have a car, he didn't wear nice clothes and sometimes couldn't donate in Church.He was a worker in Church and just wanted to serve God and make friends where he felt nobody looked down on anyone .However, no one wanted to be his friend, if he is unable to go to Church, not even a phone call from fellow workers checking on him.He said they had cliques .
Fast forward to like 4 years later, he got a fantastic job, bought a ride and everyone wanted to be his friend, hahahaha.They wanted to visit him, they began to notice him in church?? It is well.

I could go on and on, and there's nothing I want to say that we are oblivious to.
All I know is that no man will make me lose my salvation. And I insist that deep within my heart is where my church is...the word is my sword, the bible, as my guiding tool. The Holy Spirit, my comforter and succour. The name of Jesus, my armour of God.
With all these, no fake can intercept or displace my perception of what Christianity and its sanctuary represent.

ReplyDeleteMy dear it's not enough for them to call out those that want to give their lives to christ, they need to make it a major message of the day, come to think of it they preach abt prosperity for abt 50mins nd den the call for salvation is abt 5 or 10mins, that's really nt what it's meant to b the reverse is meant to be the case. The church is for salvation and every other thing follows. Am really trusting God for the day the church will realise that the main purpose for it is to call the unsaved to christ.

It felt like i was going for a financial seminar every Sunday, meanwhile i am a banker.
I couldn't deal.
It became tiring as my Spirit craved to hear the word of GOD undiluted.
Now i go to a Baptist Church and most of the members are old school so we hear more about Jesus, no fashion competition or unnecessary show of wealth, thank GOD.

ReplyDeleteHmmmm...just exactly what was going through my mind today. The bible passage for the sermon talked about all other sins being different from sexual immorality! I watched my hubby struggle to preach it through. He kept going round and round and obviously avoided eyes contact with me while he preached. I know about two girls whom he has been having an affair with and both were in the choir today.

Her story, she had been dating the choirmaster and all other choristers knew but on getting to his house, she met this sister in a pair of one of his boxers and a bra(the one who led today) They had a fight. Mt hubby has refused to intervene, I wonder why!...#rollseyes.
No wonder the bible says judgement would start from the church!
As for me, I've decided not to be bothered. My kids are my treasures. Ask pastor's wives, if they can be sincere, they know sooooo much. God help us.

Hmmmm preachers wife, I salute your tenaciousness in the scheme of your marriage vis-a-vis your preacher husband and his sexcapades.
DeleteI pray the Lord will grant you more wisdom to deal with this without having to expose him or embarrass your family before your church followers. Cos really, this is still better now, when it comes out the stigma alone will affect not only him but you and your kids. Remember pastor Chris and his wife? It's a big issue...eventhough he denied adultery took place.
I hope for your sake that your husband will be arrested by God and be put back on track.
However, it doesn't mean that he wasn't called by God or has no anointing. The irony of it is that if truly God called him, God must have been asking him to quit adultery or else the Holy spirit will be withdrawn from him. As was with Solomon who asked the Lord to create in him a new heart. But should your hubby not repent, I hope God doesn't come down on him the hard way.
That's the thing with those who truly are anointed. When God deals with them it's always very unbearable. I hope he changes on time.
My own is if after all said and done we all get to heaven to find that there's neither hell or heaven, the thing go pain me o, cos this wahala of maintaining the right part to avoid hell fire is not an easy task jare. Who knows..

All through December he was talking about the 2nd coming of Jesus christ which is very eminent! As much as we see the evils much in this world, it was foretold even before you were born. The last days are here, the scriptures must be fulfilled. That is why the bible constantly reminds us to guard our hearts dilligently and pray without ceasing because we wrestle not against mere powers of the world but against higher powers and principalities. You think most christains dont know what they are doing, some deliberately sold their souls for earthly gains and would drag as much people they can to suffer with them after judgement. Oyinbo missionaries now dey concentrate their efforts for regions who dont know about christ than those who know the gospel but refuse change. I dey try ooo but e no easy.

May God forgive us all cos we do not know what we are doing. If we say we have no sin, we lie and the truth is not in us. We are called to receive spiritual nourishment from our own different GOD appointed ministers/ministry. The most important thingis for GOD to direct us to our own designated point of nourishment and eat the Word consistently(meditate, pray, praise and attimes be silent and listen to what GOD has to say),it isn't easy I struggle myself with being consistent but GOD sees when we rely ON HIM while trying to continously seek HIS face. Everyone is called to their own pastor, that is why in the same church one will be revived and another is malnourished.

ReplyDeleteStella na real Sunday sermon be this.you know that Jesus even said it.that not everyone who come on my name are from me.most of these pastors are not from God.they are being produced from the present day sufferings in our nation; which our President is trying his best to fix. na hunger bring all these pastors. come and just like every business; you have to be customer friendly and their customers are the worshippers in their various churches. they have to tell their customers; what they want to hear in order not to be out of business.Nigeria is a place where there are churches in all nook and corners of the street and high level of impunity is still committed every day.the citizens of this country are so engrossed by their daily challenges and they look for succour in churches; where they will be told that the solution is on the way or at their door step; we forget the main reason for going to church and what Christianity is all about.we forget that Christianity is living a Christ like life by loving thy neighbor the way you love yourself. if you know what you don't like; don't do it to another person and if we do that; the world will be a better place.shalom
ReplyDeletePoster I totally agree with you and it is quite worrisome. Those good preaching about sin n repentance help you to re-examine your life but those prosperity gospel don't do much for one. I have resolved to try to follow God n make heaven on my own bcos most pastors really don't help with their teachings anymore. May God help us all.

Good afternoon everyone! Please I have just 3 Questions to ask all of you that have issues with how they preach about the good things in church?
ReplyDelete1. If someone has lack and suffers from depression where should the person go?
2. If someone cried over 9t due to undue pressure from her father to get married and goes to church what should she here?
3. Is a church a place of support/hope or a place of condemnation?
I am not in support of this prosperity preaching pastors that enrich their pockets but the church is a place of hope for many! But like in many things Nigerians are waiter, they just wait for things to happen for to them not to make things happen.
We all know the truth, abide by the word of God and make heaven. Love one another as urself. Love God and obey His commandments.

ReplyDeleteJehovah's witnesses don't preach prosperity,but if we go to people with bible based believes what do they do? They chase us off! Or start forming 'I am busy'. 2Timothy 3:1-5 talks about critical times hard to deal with, and Jesus also made mention of the signs of the last days in the account of Mathew 24:4-14 better still the whole of Mathew chapter 24. Let him who has an ear listens.

Do research and most of all beg d holy spirit to help understand and stop depending totally on 'men of God' to tell u what to believe and what not. Better still just study d bible with a Jehovah's witnesses. It might help.

DeleteStella I agree totally with you, but the truth is in as much as churches and pastors are over doing things and also taking advantage of people does not mean giving to God is not a command. God desire our sacrifices, offerings and tithes to be brought to His storehouse as a seed so that we can harvest in multiple folds. When I give, I give to God not to my pastor and I don't care what the pastor does with it because it is not in my place decide or tell God how my tithes, offerings and sacrificial seeds should be used... I am not surprised...it was already prophesied in the bible. 2tim 3: 1-3..says in the last days which is the time we are livung in, people will have more love for money and pleasure than God and that is exactly what is happening. Pastors today are more focused on wat they gain from the flock rather than imparting the accurate knowledge of God.Imagine a pastor indicating the range of currency he wants in d offering box??? Dats d height of materialism......Dats y we (Jehovahs Witnesses) r always knocking on your doors, helping you find releif and giving u the unadultrated message in Gods word the bible.....

ReplyDeleteI missed this post. SO on point. Anglican for life and my church has welfare dept to cater for those in need. SAlvation is no more preached. God help us and people will still be going there. Tell one of those Pastors your problems and here what he will tell you.
