P-square Clashes With Soundcity Over Music Video

Following claims by fans that P-Square music videos has stopped airing on SoundcityTV , Peter Okoye of the P-Square fame, has disclosed that SoundCity TV has refused to play their songs and did absolutely nothing for them over the past years.

The songster took to his Tweeter handle on Thursday to reveal that the television station intentionally refused to play their songs, for reasons they could not disclose.

In response to a fan’s tweet @Tygaresss1, who claimed that it’s “been a while soundcity played any of P-square’s video, Peter tweeted:@PeterPsquare: “Dear fans, we see your complaints about the absence of our videos on @SOUNDCITYtv, just to clear the air, they refused to play us.

“Don’t waste your time; they will not play our songs.
“Ignore that channel please and keep watching us on great reliable channels and other terrestrial channels like Trace TV, Mtvbase, Hip TV and Afropop.
“Thanks for the love,” Peter added.

In response, the music station tweeted, saying contrary to Peter’s statement that they had not done anything for the duo, the music channel had promoted and supported the artistes in the past and that it will be wrong for anyone to claim PSquare was not supported or had not benefited from Souncitytv.

The music channel further divulged that despite its support for the duo, they turned down their invitation for a concert, the reason Soundcity has resolved to suspend playing their videos, saying their partnership with the duo was not mutual, but one-sided.
“While we understand that this is business, there is also room for special consideration. Saying our TV brand has never done anything for P-Square was quite damning. Clearly, there was no need to argue with their decision and reasoning. We assumed our relationship was a mutually beneficial one, but clearly one-sided, ” Soundcitytv wrote.

@SOUNDCITYtv, wrote: “We have assisted the P-Square brand, toured with them over Africa at our expense, gave them ad-spots for their events / projects, gave them prime time slots for their videos and included them in our array of Programmes / programming.

“For 10 Years, Soundcitytv has been a huge supporter of P-Square and the P-Square brand, right from their 1st music video to the last video released in 2014. Most of their videos got massive airplay on Soundcitytv than any other music channel.
“We decided to stop ‘doing anything’ with/for P-Square, since our 10 years of supporting the group meant nothing to them.

“Viewers sometimes complain about the dominance of P-Square videos on the channel and charts. We were a huge supporter and gave everything to their works.
“We invited P-Square to one of our annual events last December 2014 and they insisted we pay a certain amount of money. We reasonably asked, what is the least we can offer? This was us foregoing the fact that we had invested a lot in P-Square’s career as music talents / artistes and entertainers.

“While we understand that this is business, there is also room for special consideration. Saying our TV brand has never done anything for P-Square was quite damning. Clearly, there was no need to argue with their decision and reasoning. We assumed our relationship was a mutually beneficial one, but clearly one-sided.

“Overall, we wish the duo the best in their endeavours. SoundcityTV will keep airing works of the best and upcoming Nigerian artistes, and also, the best #African artistes to the world, especially nurturing their talents from inception till they become huge megastars and international superstars.

“Soundcitytv reserves the right to air which ever music videos we please on our cable / satellite or terrestrial platforms.

 Thank you

    1. Soundcity was in for negotiation by asking "what's the least we can offer" but jude's response was too childish.

I know Paul will never get involved in this mess. Peter has pride and Jude talks like a child.

  7. Stations Dat will collect money from upcoming artistes before they can play their songs want ready made ones to do shows for them at subsidized rate??? They are not serious at all. Psquare owes dem nothing, they worked hard to create hit songs that d sound city used to play so I wonder why they think they should reduce their fees just cos they play their songs. Smh

  8. Stella, what do you mean? How do you want them to handle it again? Is this some family business? So because soundcity plays their music, Psquare shouldn't bill them for shows as appropriate? All Soundcity knows is to milk artiste dry, all in the name of supporting their music by airing their songs. They can only do this to upcoming artistes, those ones that come crawling and begging for their songs to be aired not made ones like Psquare...

Their top ten countdown is so wack! HIPTV is bae any day anytime.

  12. oh please Stella, handle what?!!
Psquare was a well known brand before soundcity came in, Psquare was famous already, Soundcity didn't make them and they can't break them.
on the other hand, both teams should have resolved amicably.

  14. Got out of hand how @ Stella. Haven't you seen Jude's reply? I'm not taking sides on this one but @soundcitytv is taking it too far. Why would psquare perform for them for free? Like seriously? Okay they've been helping psquare all these years by playing their videos, agreed. Are they trying to say they weren't making money from that? Or do they share the money with psquare. To me its a two way thing, both parties helped each other. Soundcity should have stopped playing their videos some 5yrs back let's see na. I hate it when someone wants to play god over another. Its business,if u can't afford their price, look for someone else you can afford and let us hear word.

  19. Soundcity it's business as you said and you feel sad that they requested for a fee to appear at your event right? You claim to have assisted them in numerous way but may I ask if you were paid for this assistance or was it free? If you were paid then why feel bad that they requested for payment too? You expected them to appear for free? That's their source of livelihood so take a chill pill abeg. Is anything free in this country again?
