Afcon 2017: Nigeria Fails To Qualify After Defeat By Egypt

Nigeria has failed to qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations after falling to a 1-0 defeat in Egypt in their Group G match on Tuesday.

With just one game remaining and only the group winners to qualify, Nigeria cannot make up their five-point deficit to table-toppers Egypt.

Ramadan Sobhy's 65th-minute winner puts Egypt on the verge of qualification.
Egypt face Tanzania in June and will book their place in Gabon with any result better than a 3-0 defeat.
Nigeria won the Nations Cup in 2013 but have now suffered back-to-back eliminations in qualifying.

They threw everything forward to find an equaliser on Tuesday and came close when West Ham winger Victor Moses crashed a shot against the post in the 84th minute.

The match in Alexandria became a virtually all-or-nothing tie for Nigeria after Chad withdrew from the group on Sunday, citing financial difficulties, and all results from their matches were erased.

That left only three teams in Group G and in accordance with the rules of the Confederation of African Football only the winner would qualify for the finals.
Egypt have seven points with one match to play, against bottom club Tanzania, who have only one point but two games remaining.

To have any chance of qualification Tanzania would need to beat Egypt by a better scoreline than the 3-0 defeat they suffered in Egypt last June because head-to-head records would come into effect if the sides finished level on points.

Tanzania would still have to beat Nigeria in their final match in September.

    2. How did he cause it? When your egoistic players will be forming too big to practice. Yet una want result.
You cannot use mouth and defeat any team because you are eagles with plenty moses. NFF will keep playing politics, let them enter the field and play nauuu. You will use the salaries and be playing politics and expect them to go and work their asses out. Atleast, Nigeria doesn't even have money to waste on the tournament so good for them. They started being serious at the dying minute instead of working hard from the very beginning, that is the Nigerian factor. Giant of Africa, reFfering to other countries as "common", yet those countries train day and Night even if they were to meet a legion of rabbits. Naija own na to talk talk talk, pride goes before a fall.
The ones fighting about Captainship, oya nauuu. Who captain help?

    2. I was not o, when you put pride first, failure will become inevitable. Eagles didn't work hard as per training. You cannot rely on just your big name when others are training day and night.
Super eagle stars feel too big to even come to field and obey simple instructions. NFF was busy dancing ALABANKO with the money they should have used to do important things.
You can't be serious two days to the major event and expect results when you been in slumber all these months.

  3. Fucking hell!! Seriously??? I am so disappointed. I'm sure not having a good coach also affected them as well. Siasia came in late. I am so so disappointed. Was looking forward to watching them. Since we won, we haven't been back at Afcon. Na charm? Or curse? Na wa. Anyways back to supporting Ivory Coast. My boos
