Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, paid a private visit to Jamaica from the 22nd – 24th September 2016.
His Excellency, whose popularity in Jamaica remains at an all-time high was feted to 3 separate receptions during the short visit – a private reception by former 3-time Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Most Honourable P.J. Patterson, a reception at the Nigeria High Commission, Jamaica by the Acting High Commission, L. I. Onoh, and a formal reception attended by the immediate past Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Most Honourable Mrs. Portia Simpson-Millar and three time former Prime Minister, the Most Honourable P.J. Patterson as well as a host of Jamaica’s Private and Public Sector elite.
His Excellency, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo took time to highlight the strong bonds between Nigeria and Africa’s diaspora, especially in the Caribbean which is now the A.U.’s 6th Region, and Nigeria’s peculiar role of protector of our scattered brethren around the globe. In a warmly received speech, His Excellency also took time to give a lively history of Nigeria’s journey with Jamaica, especially, the concerted effort to forge a new and more equitable world order for all.
